Sonny Red with Blue Mitchell and Grant Green
Red, Blue and Green (Fantasy/Milestone)
This fine new Milestone two-on-one reissue consists of two
Sonny Red
bop sessions from 1961 that were originally released on two Jazzland releases, The Mode and Images. This is a welcome blues and standards hard bop reissue. (The album gets its title from altoist
Sonny
Red, and excellent sidemen trumpeter
Blue Mitchell and guitarist
Grant Green.)
Sonny Red and Grant Green sound especially nice together on Green's five tracks.
The rhythm section consists of Cedar Walton, Barry Haris and Jimmy Cobb.
